Luggage Size Guide

Luggage comes in a variety of sizing’s and weights. Major brands have all sizes and capacity specifications on the product pages so you can easily compare the different models. For items without specifications the following guidelines can be followed.

Suitcase size: all suitcase manufactures measure the size of the suitcase from the ground to the top of the carry handle, not the internal measurements of the bag. This can also be measured in inches. From this you can gauge if the bag is small, medium or large.

Small cabin suitcase – 18 inch,

Large cabin suitcase – 20 inch,

Extra large cabin suitcase – 22 inch,

Medium suitcase – 24 inch,

Large suitcase – 27 inch,

Extra large suitcase – 32 inch,

Please note that a hard case will generally be smaller in capacity to a soft sided case of the same size due to it not being able to expand or bulge out with packing. Also note that a four wheel spinner will also generally be smaller in capacity to a two wheel bag of the same size do to the main part of the bag being slightly higher off the ground.

Most airlines will allow one main check in piece up to 50lb and not exceeding 70lb but can vary depending on airline and travel class.

Regular packing with normal items in a large suitcase will generate a weight between 44lb to 57lb. Medium suitcases will generate a weight between 33lb to 44lb with regular packing.

Cabin Baggage sizing’s

Maximum dimensions of carry-on baggage are calculated by adding the height, length and depth of the bag (linear dimensions).

Please note that this is a general guideline and you should always check with your airline on the cabin bag restrictions before you travel.

Please note that some airlines for international travel will allow cabin bags at 15 lb per piece. Also some other airlines such as British Airways will allow a 22inch suitcase on board with a maximum weight of 51 lb and you must be able to lift it unaided, plus a second small item. Some airlines such as American Airlines allow a 22 inch bag with no weight restriction.

All the sizing’s mentioned above include handles, pockets and wheels.
